We are expected to see more challenges ahead as the logistics industry is predicted to grow more rapidly in the next 6 years. Statistics from The Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that logistics jobs is expected to grow 22 percent, twice more than any other occupations!
However, an UKCES report entitled Understanding Skills and Performance Challenges in The Logistic Sector, about 67,339 UK logistics employees are not proficient in the job roles, and this was increasing since 2011. The statistic is quite disappointing, but there are still some ways to overcome it to increase the productivity at the same time.

Communication is the most vital thing in almost every single job field, including logistics. A clear and concise communication will effectively achieve the desired goals.
A meeting or two every week could be done to evaluate the workforce’s performance and give a quick solution for the obstacles faced. Also, having daily morning briefings could be done to ensure everyone knows what are the things to handle the processes involved. That will transform powerful motivation to increase the employee’s performance and productivity as well.
Determination of Importance
In logistics, the demand for the massive effort and time management from the workforce is highly sought after, therefore do not waste the time by gauging on the results that are not necessary. Company’s goal is vital but the technical process to achieve it might be conditional as one could not expect an ideal condition in a process, especially those who handle the outdoor matters.
Procedure Standards Focus
Standardisation saves time and money, resulting in fewer errors occurred in the logistics process. Obstacles and the condition might happen technically.
DMAIC stands for Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve and Control. The 5 steps approach reduces costly process variations and ensures sustained, defect-free performance and highly competitive costs. To do a method based on ‘how’ might be easier, but it would be more efficient if one knows ‘why’ a method is operated.
New hires are great assets if they can quickly adapt to the workflows and targets of the highly-demanded environment. Involving them in the process is crucial, but they deserve to be put through a training program by the supervisors and get the support they need from the colleagues.
